Pittsburgh, Get lost, Part I
Destination: Stony Creek in Somerset County

Rieker and I decided to escape the 85 degree plus weather in Pittsburgh, and go to the mountains. We packed up all three dogs and decided to go fishing.

PA Turnpike, East

Taking the Somerset Exit off the turnpike. Grandpa Rieker was outraged at the price hike they implemented a few years ago on the turnpike.

I guess we weren't too confident in our fishing luck, because we decided to hedge our bets at McDonald's before we went.

To get to Rieker's fishing spot, we had to hike this railroad 4-ever... Believe you me, he heard all about it all the way down the path. Maybe that's why he decided to walk so far ahead.

Then we had to go rock surfing across the creek. It's very rocky and slippery, especially where the water moves a little faster, so it's a good idea to wear some old shoes with some grip and protection.

It's worth it, though, for the view and the feel of the nice cool mountain water. We did not see anyone else the whole time we were there.

Rieker fly-fishing for trout.

Still fishing...

while the dogs and I waded around.

We made beans in the can, hobo-style in the campfire....

and hotdogs....but no fish...Lots of fun though.

July 3rd, 2005, Anna, Rieker and me.
We spent the day exploring Forbes State Park and actually drove across the Mason Dixon Line into West Virginia. Many of the roads we drove were rocky dirt roads. We even saw an Amish kid just sitting on the side of the road chewing grass, hmmm. Not much to do out there, I guess.

A highlight was a gigantic rock quarry that looked like it went down at least 6 stories, but, of course I forgot to take pictures, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

One of the first bastions of civilization was Bud Murphy's. Rieker saw the Beer sign from at least a mile away, I think.

Maybe we were out in the country too long. Rieker looks like he can't believe his eyes.

My first gold tooth.

Anna's hair, pretty.

Scary.

Ahhh, that's better.

We were there on karaoke night. We listened to a lot of country American idols.

Food makes everyone happy and smiley...

and sleepy...
