Day One Afternoon: Scottsdale, Phoenix AZ

After a long morning spent flying out to Phoenix, Rieker picked me up starving and we decided to spend our first few hours looking for some lunch to eat in Old Town Scottsdale, "The West's Most Western Town". They obviously got that nickname a while ago (back in the 1950's actually), because it is upscale enough to have reminded me of a "Cowboy Shadyside".
We went in search of food at the Rusty Spur Saloon, but the kitchen was closed. It's a historic "cowboy bar" with lots of atmosphere, so I was glad we checked it out, but it was too early to get our "drink on". It wasn't that big a place. I guess you would call it "intimate seating"? with a small stage for their entertainment. I would like to go back one day and have a whiskey and beer.
Most of the town offered a collection of cowboy boots, gifts & souvenirs. The picture isn't so great, but I got a tickle from their Steeler/AZ Cardinal window display. Steeler love is everywhere! Even in a sports competitive town like Phoenix!
Hanging Chili Peppers further shoves it down your throat that you are in the Southwest.
Rieker had finished his last morning of shots, then had to pack and check out of his hotel right before he picked me up from the airport. You can tell by his face that he had low blood sugar.
You can tell by my face I was still giddy from the "up all night" Dexter party at Jayne&Matty's.
Boy, was I happy to finally get there. One beer down and another waiting, wow!
Rieker on his crutches upon leaving Karsen's Grill. Did I tell you he hurt himself while out there for work? If you blow up the picture, the mural behind him was pretty cool. He only had eyes for that car though. It that a Starsky & Hutch car?
Old Town Scottsdale, the west's most western town....yahda, yahda, yahda...Can you tell?
